Feeling Insecure?
[Some thoughts by Rosemary and William Hesbrook]
As people we are very much a “work
in progress” from birth until the moment we die. There are many self-help
books claiming to tell us how to improve ourselves – everything from managing
stress to being more assertive. All of this demands great effort
on our part with no real guarantee of success. We try, we fail,
we beat ourselves up for failing and so become even more insecure and unhappy
about ourselves.
This type of insecurity is one of
the greatest personal problems folk go through nowadays. But we can be
free of it. If we are in Christ (by asking Jesus to come into our
lives as our personal Saviour) and we allow God, through His Holy Spirit,
to guide, teach and, yes, change us, we can have true personal security
and assurance.
God’s Word teaches us that a Christian
can say with confidence:
-
I know that God loves me and has a
great plan for my life.
-
Everyone has weaknesses; I am NOT a
failure because I’m not perfect.
-
Yes, I have faults but God is working
on me, changing me little by little, day by day and while He does this
I can enjoy my life.
-
I realise I’ll always have issues to
deal with so I won’t be disappointed when God convicts me of areas that
still need improvement.
-
I want people to like me but my sense
of worth will not depend on them. No, Jesus has already proven my worth
by dying for me.
-
I refuse to be controlled or manipulated
by others. Even if they reject me I’ll survive because Jesus has
promised never to leave me or forsake me.
-
No matter how often I fail, I won’t
give up because God is with me, to sustain me and strengthen me.
-
I like myself! I don’t like everything
I say or do, but I refuse to reject myself because I know I am precious
to God. I am His workmanship and He loves me and accepts me as I
am.
-
In myself I may be nothing, but in
Christ Jesus I am everything I need to be. I matter to God.
My life makes a difference.
-
Regardless of the challenges I face,
I know I can do all the things He requires of me through Jesus who strengthens
me. His grace is sufficient for me.
Are you in the right relationship with
God that enables you not only to say but to KNOW and ACCEPT these scriptural
truths about yourself? Do you want to be SECURE? You
can be, in Jesus Christ.
"He
who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion
until
the day of Christ Jesus." (Philippians 1:6)
